Have you heard what we have been up to....well if not, be very proud of your child for keeping such an amazing secret....RAOK!
Our class goal for the month of December was to do a Random Act of Kindness for 25 days. It was soooo hard to keep it a secret and I must say there were a few times I thought for sure we were going to get caught. We worked with our trusty first grade neighbors in Ms. Sulentic's room to bring a great deal of cheer to Glenbrook, to our community, and to your families.
Here is what your children did for 25 days in December....
December 1st--We were super sneaky and left candycanes on cars in the parking lot! We had to crouch down to not get caught several times!!!
December 2nd--We put decorations on the computers in the lab and left change on the vending machine for someone to have a soda on us.
December 3rd--We wrote letters to the mailman.
December 4th--We made a hug for someone special.
December 5th--We made cards for the nursing home.
December 6th--We made thank you cards for the police and firemen.
December 7th--We made a winter project for the doctor's office.
December 8th--We made a huge letter and made a special cup for our crossing guards. This was another very tricky day! We were almost caught several times.
December 9th--Mrs. Wiedeman purchased books for kids who needed some and we decorated the inside of them. We put them in stockings and gave them to the pantry.
December 10th and 11th--We brought coupons home to do an extra chore on the weekend.
December 12th--We left Mr. Sufka a beautiful picture and a brand new Santa tie.
December 13th--We painted vases and Mrs. Wiedeman bought flowers for the secretaries.
December 14th--We created a huge tree and put it on
Ms. Disterhaft's door.
December 15th--We left candy in the media room for some lucky kids.
December 16th--We typed up Christmas notes in the computer lab and then put them all over the school.
December 17th--We were to give a hug to someone special.
December 18th--We were to clean our room without being asked.
December 19th--We decorated boxes and gave candycanes to all the kindergartners.
December 20th--We gave all the second graders cookies and all the fixins to decorate them.
December 21st--We gave the fifth graders boxes of candy.
December 22nd--We sent out an email and sang a song for the school!
December 23rd--We sent cards in the mail to our parents.
December 24th--We gave our parents a Christmas present!
December 25th--Merry Christmas! We spent time with family!
I honestly have to say this is one of the best things I've done as a teacher. I asked the kids at the beginning of December how many of them like to give or receive gifts and hands down receiving was more fun. I asked again this week and this time giving was more fun. That's what Christmas is all about....
Please watch the slideshow in the sidebar to see many of the things we did!
I think all the acts of kindness you did was so cool! The best part was I did not hear about most of them until I read the blog so you did them without bragging about it-very cool!

I remember the hug and extra "chores" tickets. I had no idea you did so much! What a neat way to be positive difference makers in your school, the community and your homes. I am so proud of the whole class!

I think your ROAK secret project was really great & very inspiring! That was SO nice of you all to do so many nice things for people in our community...and you did it without expecting any praise for it. I'm 100% sure that your random acts of kindness brightened MANY people's days. I know the HUG really made my day, I definitely remember that & I hope the hugs keep coming! :) Seth's Mom
