Winter the Elf

Winter the Elf was very busy in second grade this week!  We probably won't see Winter again until next year.  I'm sure she told Santa that the boys and girls at Glenbrook were very, very well behaved!
 On top of the projector!

Miss Murray and Mrs. Murray

Miss Murray had her mom stop in this week to read to us and help us make a special wreath project.  It was a special treat!!

Christmas Card Exchange

Christmas Card Exchange!
We are doing a really neat project this Christmas season!  We sent Christmas cards to places all across the United States and now they are sending cards back to us!  We have also gotten a chance to check out some of their blogs!

Check out these links!

These are the places we have received Christmas cards from!

Labeling the Teacher

We are learning about nonfiction features including labels, captions, table of contents, indexes, etc.  The kids labeled me!  Yikes!

Junior Achievement

The kids have been participating in Junior Achievement the past few weeks.  They have been learning about the community, wants and needs, goods and services, taxes, and voting.  They earned their completion certificates this week!
Thanks Josh for teaching us!

Winter the Elf

Our friendly little Elf Winter has been busy, busy, busy this week at Glenbrook.  She is watching all the boys and girls and reporting her findings back to Santa!

Elf on the Shelf

A very special Elf has been sent to second grade.  The kids are super excited!  She will be visiting our classrooms and reporting to Santa.  She will become magical once we name her.  Right now we are voting for our favorite elf name.  The kids know that she cannot be touched or she will lose her magical powers.  She loves to listen to kids but will not be able to talk to anyone...Santa's Rules!  Please keep an eye on the blog for pics!  You never know where she will end up!

Thanksgiving

We had Thanksgiving last Thursday.  We eat a big feast that includes:  turkey, potatoes, ham, stuffing, buns, pie, and other yummy foods.  Most of us get together with our families.  Sometimes we travel to visit our aunts, uncles, and grandparents. We give thanks for the people who fight for us. Some people go to church and pray.  We don't go to school on Thanksgiving.  It is a special holiday for us.  Our next BIG holiday is Christmas!

Guidance

Mrs. Bogacz talked to the class about the importance of listening, following directions, and making sure to be respectful by not shouting out in class.  This was an experiment she did with the kids to talk about shouting out in class.

Chinese Acrobats

We earned enough balls in our big PBIS barrel to have an all school celebration.  Since the Glenbrook students have been respectful, responsible, and safe, they were treated to a magnificent show.  Chinese acrobats came and performed for all the kids and teachers.

Spooktacular Masquerade

For our monthly team competition, we had a Spooktacular Masquerade!  The kids had to create masks and then we voted on the best boy and girl mask in each class.  The winners then competed against the rest of the second grade.  We took 4th and 5th place.  The masks were sooo neat!

Here is Mrs. Wiedeman's Class...

BIG DAY

Today is a very big day in the United States.  We will b voting for the President of the United States.  We have 2 candidates that are running for president.

This is our current president Barack Obama.  He is a democrat.

This is Mitt Romney.  He is a republican.

We won't find out who the winner is until late tonight. You must be 18 years old to vote for the president.  The person who wins will be our president for the next 4 years.  We will post the winner tomorrow!

Superflex

Superflex came to school today.  Superflex lives inside our brains.  He helps us listen, be respectful, be safe, and to be kind.  He is a great superhero!  We will be learning about some Unthinkables in the near future.  These characters live in our brain as well and make us do things that are not good. We need to use our Superflex thinking to beat the Unthinkables!

Skype--New Zealand

We spoke with our friends in New Zealand.  They were just getting ready to start school as we were getting ready to leave school.  So neat to have friends in a different part of the world.
