We are going to have lots of Snow! We had our banana party today and here is a little clip of us out in the snow!

We had recess today and it was snowing. We now need to have snowpants and boots every day so that we can stay warm and go on the playground. We read a book about Tacky the Penguin and then we wrote a letter to him. Our Junior Achievement lady came today and talked to us about government workers. She will be coming 2 more times. We got to put more stickers on our community pictures. We get to bring them home tonight and can color them if we want to. We also did rocket math this morning and Joe passed level Z and is now in subtraction. We are proud of him! Mrs. Wiedeman let us shop for more books during the middle of the week. She NEVER lets us do that!!! Today we had a lot of fun.....Have a chilly evening...The Class

Hi,

We all got to write in our new notebooks for Writing For Fun! This was fun. We had rocket math and many people passed this week. To end the day, we learned how to do Nascar Writing. We had 2 minutes to write as many words as we could. There were alot of people who wrote alot of words. We had fun in art class today because we were weaving with paper. During reading time, we are learning about the sun. We read a book that taught us about sun spots. Recess was great and the weather was spectacular. Have a super night...The Class.

We got a new Smart Board. It shakes right now because the projector moves when we move. Mrs. Wiedeman is going to try to fix it. We have to deal with it right now. Today we had lots of fun learning about feelings. We listened to a story and then we made pictures to show feelings. Last week we watched a movie for our incentive. We got to have Tootsie Pops. We watched Tumblebooks on our Smartboard. We listened to 50 Below Zero by Robert Munsch. We worked on money today and learned how to show money different ways. We all finished math boxes today by ourselves and we're all able to do math games. Have a monkeymendous night...the class.

We watched the Magic School Bus that was about spiders. We played Eggspert in Mrs. McAllister's class and they won. We can't wait for the Reading World Series which will be tonight starting at 5:00. Our monkey is starting to climb the tree again. We want another Banana party. Our butterflies are out and Mrs. Wiedeman will be letting them go soon. Today is the last day of September. We had a nice recess. Yesterday we played with high school football players. We had fun at gym. We played turtle tag and ships and islands. Our lunch was very yummy. We had sloppy joes. We learned about teeth and that we need to brush our teeth 2 times a day. There is NO school tomorrow. Have a monkeymendous night...The Class.

We helped the PTO with magnets. We volunteered to help get this big project done. We went to computer and learned how to type in our secret password. Our caterpillars turned in chrysalises. We had guidance and learned how to listen better. We had a super fun day....The Class!

We have had a very busy week in second grade. We went swimming and Mrs. Wiedeman took pictures of us. Everyone went in the water and really seemed to have a good time. At school today, we had science. We got our own caterpillars. We named them and gave them homes. They will turn into painted lady butterflies. We earned a marble and a banana party. Mrs. Wiedeman said we were especially good. We had lunch and recess. It stopped raining and we got to go outside. It was a little wet. We had rocket math. Some kids passed. Tomorrow is Friday and we are keeping a secret from Mrs. McAllister's class. Can't tell you what it is!!!

We are having fun in second grade. Here are some of the things we have been doing: reading, glitter germs, science with Mrs. McAllister's Class, reading Kevin Henkes books, math journal, snack, Asha in the Attic, writing, Marvin Redpost, Rocket Math, germs on our hands with a special light, Scrub Club, Cafe Menu, practiced washing our hands, Animal books, and making name tags. Our First Class Post

We had group time. We talked about germs and spread sparkly germs. We did rocket math and a bunch of us passed today. We are learning how to read and how to build stamina. 3rd grade won penny wars. They get an extra recess. Maybe next year we will win. Have a great night...The Class

First Week

Hi Second Graders and Parents,

We had a great first week of school. We learned many of the routines that we will be following all year long. We were able to check out the library and enjoy a few new books. We had a pep rally on Friday and talked about being respectful, responsible, and safe.

This is a fun way for us to communicate. I love having students and parents comment on the blog. Hello Cole and Austin!

Hi Cole and Austin,

Thanks for writing back. Wow! You both are having lots of fun. I'm so glad to hear you did the reading program Austin. Good luck with football. Hope you keep passing levels in swimming. I passed all the levels when I was a kid and actually became a lifeguard and swim instructor. I taught swim lessons for about 6 years.

Cole...Sounds like you are having a great summer too. I bet you had fun in Michigan. I haven't been to Michigan in a really long time. My parent live on a lake in Tomahawk and I went water skiing during the 4th of July!

At Disney World, I didn't get to ride any of the big rollercoasters because Hailey was too little. I did take her on Goofy's Barnstormer Rollercoaster and we had a blast...we rode it 3 times! I also loved Animal Kingdom. We had front row seats at the Lion King show and Hailey got to dance with all the people. I also got to meet Cinderella, Handy Manny, Pooh, and a ton of other characters. Hailey got all their autographs!

We took Hailey, Brock, and Brayden camping last weekend for the first time. Brock and Brayden loved swimming in the pool. They also really enjoyed the playground. We are going to go camping one more time this summer before school starts.

I bet you are getting excited to find out who your teachers will be! I'm sure you will have a blast in third grade. You might get a little more homework though!!

Summer Fun

HI Everyone,

I don't know if you guys check this over the summer or not but I thought I would post anyhow. I hope that you are all having a fabulous summer vacation. I had a super time at Disney World with Hailey. It was soooo hot though. It was close to 100 degrees each day. Hailey loved all the rides. She can't wait to go back again. The boys are still crazy...they love to tackle each other. I am teaching summer school right now and Cade, Dylan, Ari, and Natalie were all in my class. It was really nice seeing them. It was fun learning all about the Magic School Bus. Before you know it, school will be starting again. I think you have about 6 more weeks of vacation and then you will be third graders. Keep checking the blog during the summer and school year! Write back and tell me what you have been doing this summer!

Next Friday is our last day of school and it is only a half day. Today was sunglasses and shades day. Many of the kids wore their glasses. We are working on our second grade memory books and today we worked on self portraits. We will be feeding Marley because the poor monkey is probably starving. It is hat day. In science we are learning about genres. We are reading fables. A fable is a story that has a moral. You learn something from these stories. We had a few minutes of free time because we worked hard today. We had to write to our third grade teachers today. We wrote a paragraph about second grade. Alot of people passed rocket math. Tonight is DQ night from 4:00-7:00. Mrs. Wiedeman is going to wear her chair racing shirt. She will be there from 5:00-6:00. Tomorrow night is Family Fun Night. Mrs. Wiedeman will be doing the cake walk at 7:15 until 8:00. Mrs. Wiedeman hopes to win a cake but does not have much luck with cake walks. We made compost bags in science. We earned a banana party. On Friday we get to bring our favorite stuffed animal...only one. Lenny messed up the room and the hallway. He gave some people hats and some pencils and everyone got a cookie. He triggered all the traps. We didn't catch him. He left a trail to somewhere. Maybe he is back at the Emerald Isle. Lenny took the golden apple and put it in Wilder's locker. He left a trail to help us find the apple. Lenny gave each of us a pin to wear. Our room was a mess. The bins were tipped over, chairs were knocked over, and he really seems to like the Water Monkey's blue bucket. He keeps knocking it down. He destroyed the park that we made for him. Please make sure our traps are sent in for tomorrow because we will be setting them up. We got new buddies in science class and we looked at soil. Lenny gave us each a golden coin. We made Lenny pictures and letters. He messed up our room this morning. We hope he is (not) better tonight. We had to stay in for recess. Some of the kids went to the gym and listened to songs. Austin passed level Z in rocket math and is now onto multiplication. We did more safety today on water safety. At your house, in your yard, watch for water be on guard. Don't just pack it wear your jacket. We learned how to put on a life jacket. Lenny the leprechaun left us a note and left us a word search. Mrs. Wiedeman won the Golden Apple Award today. Fox 11 news came and we will probably be on the news tonight. Mrs. Wiedeman got a golden apple and flowers from Andy and the kids. We had a little free time because we were so good...it is our secret. We talked about water safety. Think before you sink. Look before you leap. Reach or throw don't go. Be cool follow the rule. In science we learned about drinking and smoking. It is not good for you. You have to make good choices and be responsible. We made posters to persuade people not to smoke or drink alcohol. We just cracked words and some of us were able to spell the red hot chili pepper college words which were blackboard and shuffleboard. We did math boxes and learned about the 1/2 inch. We went on a cool website called
http://www.artyastro.com/main.htm. We played a game and learned about the planets. We made a constellation in science class. Mrs. Wiedeman has an interview for the Golden Apple Awards. The class gets to help make the video that she will take to the interview. In science, we saw the far side of the moon. The moon lights up because the rays from the sun reflect off of the moon. We did a mini spelling test. If we spell the words wrong, we will have to do them again. We cracked words and did very well on the hot chili pepper college words. We are having a pajama party on Friday because we earned a banana party. We were all being very quiet when Mrs. Wiedeman walked in the door. We made characters in art class. We have our first person in multiplication....Way to go William! In science we did an experiment that showed us how the Earth tilts and this causes the seasons. Mrs. McAllister finally figured out how to do the experiment. It only took her 5 years! Have a FUN night...The Class

William is our top banana. He showed us a video and we learned about geocaching. Very cool! Some people passed rocket math which was exciting. Cole and Cade are back today. We are happy to have them at school. Some of the kids are reading Mr. Popper's Penguins and are very excited about this long chapter book. It has 20 chapters. We had snack at our tables today which was fun. We are also going to finish Flat Stanley.

Tomorrow is a half day of school. We had music and gym for specials. We had a music free day. We played music games. Our monkey went up the tree. It went up 5 spots! We are going to have a banana party tomorrow. We get to eat with Mrs. Wiedeman in the classroom. We also earned a marble party. We are not sure what Mrs. Wiedeman and Mrs. McAllister have planned. We did rocket math. We had lots of people pass. It was our last day of Little D. We did 3 challenges today with Little D. We went to Art class and watched 2 videos on Eric Carle. We also got new spots in art. We got to pick our own spots. We did a speed sort with our word cards. We are pretty fast. We are using some fun spelling tools to practice our words. We also learned how to use a rubric for writing time. Have a splendid rest of the day!

We have school for only half a day on Friday. We just learned that on April 29th we will be going to the Milwaukee Museum. Not too many people passed rocket math today. We need to practice tonight. We got new table names. They are: Water Monkeys, Crunchy Banana Chips, Badgers, T-Rex Hunters, and the Funky Monkeys. We did multiplication today. It's adding the same number over and over and over. We had a new STEP worker and her name was Mrs. Skovera. She is Austin's sitter before and after school. She is super nice. Have a splendid evening.

We learned about the vegetable group today. We turned off all the lights and tried to read words that were on the walls. We could all see the words. Vegetables help us see in the dark. Did you know that? We took a math test for report cards. Rocket math was first thing this morning and many of us passed. Dylan finished a research guide during Read to Self. The monkey moved up the tree and we are four hops away from a banana party! Tomorrow we are trying to earn a ton of marbles for our marble party. ONLY Mrs. Wiedeman and Mrs. McAllister know how many we can earn!!!!

We did rocket math this morning and Kaidan passed level Z...we are soooo proud of him. We went shopping for new books and William found a new research guide on dolphins and sharks. We made our new spelling lists so be on the look out for them tonight. We will write more later.....

We had 10 minutes of free time because we were excellent students. We had gym and music. We played basketball and sang She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain with instruments. We went to social studies in Mrs. McAllister's room and we learned about Asia and Australia. We will write more tomorrow.
